That one hot coworker you can’t stop staring at work? We’ve all got one of those. But flirting at work can’t cross a line, or things may get out of hand. In this article, we’ll talk about things you need to know about flirting in the workplace.
Flirting in the workplace crosses an invisible border that should never be crossed. Having fun and complimenting the hottie in the cubicle next to you is fine, but crossing the line into inappropriate behavior is not. Then there’s all the turmoil that might ensue in a relationship.
In the workplace, it’s best to avoid flirting with coworkers. Never give the impression of being unprofessional or giving a false impression of yourself to another person. Even so, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun. Everything will be alright if you keep it innocent.
This can have a negative impact on your professional career if you cross the line when flirting at work.
By flirting with another coworker, you risk more than just your relationship; doing so could jeopardize your professional future. Consider it. Anyone who can’t hold their cool in the workplace isn’t going to get any respect.
Being referred to as the “office slut” because you can’t seem to stop yourself from making out with everyone means that you may find it more difficult to move on in your work. Never want to be recognized this way in the first place, either.
Innocent and uncomplicated methods of office romance:
That being said, you can still flirt with coworkers in the office. Keeping it innocent is all that’s required, as is knowing when it’s alright to do it. By following these tips, learn how to maintain your office fling without jeopardizing your job or relationship.
Make it a joke.
As an alternative to making your flirting comments overtly sexy, make them more lighthearted. In your childhood, did you ever make fun of a kid you liked because they were different? Similar flirting can be done in the office.
Running late because you needed more time to do your hair? That’s a good one.” When someone says, “It was worth it,” it can be both amusing and flirty. Having said that, if you’re poking fun of them in a lighthearted manner, it’s fine.
Don’t go overboard with the profanity.
I’m sure you get what I’m saying. If you want to continue to have sexual relations at work, you must maintain an air of innocence. Inappropriate comments aren’t allowed. You’ve crossed a line if you bring up their body or sexuality in any way.
Things of a sexual nature can’t be considered innocent in the slightest. As soon as someone starts thinking of you in that light, it’s difficult to encourage them to change their mind. So steer clear of any sexual innuendos at all costs.
There will be no physical contact.
Just to be clear, don’t do that. Most companies have policies prohibiting any physical contact after a handshake. Slapping someone on the back is fine, but that’s it.
You can’t even if you’d like to slap a coworker in the butt softly. That’s well beyond the line. Physical violence isn’t innocent.
In the event that you’d be upset if your lover did the same, you should quit.
Double standards are present in this scenario. Crossing a line you cannot get back from is when you are certain that your partner will be disturbed by the same thing. In the same way as if you’re single and your partner isn’t, the same rules apply.
The same things could be done to your partner at work by someone else. It’s not worth it if the answer is no, so don’t do it either!
Never give in to the temptation of a flirty remark.
It is perfectly acceptable to flirt at work if this is the first time you’ve ever flirted with this person outside of work. As long as you keep it at work, it becomes less flirty and more like a friendship between coworkers.
Therefore, you must never, ever act on anything you say. If you say you’ll take someone downtown to have a good time, don’t follow through. However, make it plain that you’re not serious about your comment.
Don’t do it at any of your company’s social events where alcohol is present.
Even though it’s a big no-no, that’s where everyone flirts – and then regrets it. During a business party or other type of event when alcohol is involved, flirting is out of the question.
As a result, your inhibitions fall, and you are unable to think rationally. It’s possible that you’ll end up taking things a little too far with flirting and destroying things at work.
Acknowledge something that is evident.
If you’re going to be flirting, don’t be subtle about your compliments. Smiling suggestively while saying how great they look after getting a haircut is perfectly acceptable if they have a new hairstyle.
Something that is less evident and more personality-based can give them the wrong idea if you give them a compliment on it.
Wink at them jokingly. When flirting at work, it’s best to toss a few flirtatious winks here and there to keep things lighthearted. However, it does not go too far in terms of flirting.
A fantastic approach to accomplish this is to complement someone, then wink and grin at them. This will pique their interest without giving them the impression that you want to spend the rest of your life with them on the bed.
It has been overstepped if you feel uncomfortable.
This is a glaring omission. When a seductive remark makes you feel uncomfortable, it was probably too much. Flirting with someone who isn’t your significant other shouldn’t make you uneasy.
Doing so reveals that your comments aren’t as harmless as they appear. Don’t go that far, and you won’t have to worry about it. Having already flirted with someone, stop and try to seem like nothing occurred.
In many respects, flirting at work may be challenging. Keep your coworkers’ friendships light and pleasant without crossing the line. That’s why I’ve put together this guide.
